At HSM training we are always looking for new information about human sources, HUMINT Confidential Informants, covert human intelligence sources CHIS. Of particular interest is always anything that comes from academia. We thought it worth sharing. Congrats to the researchers.
We recently came across the following:
“ Inside the shadows: a survey of UK human source intelligence (HUMINT) practitioners, examining their considerations when handling a covert human intelligence source (CHIS”) by Lee Moffett, Gavin E Oxburgh Paul Dresser , Steven J Watson , Fiona Gabbert
The paper is interesting and can be found here
Of particular interest in this rese arch were the topics of
(a) handler personality traits;
(b) informant motivation;
(c) rapport;
d) gaining cooperation;
(e) obtaining information,
(f) detecting deception.
At HSM Training we have been researching these topics for around 24 years now and delivering training on an international basis on these, and other aspects of psychology, relating to managing human sources. I’m currently sitting on my hotel balcony watching the kangaroos and checking over the material I will deliver in a ten day course to local law enforcement.
The material discussed in this paper is not new. This and more is available to any law enforcement or intelligence agency that wants it. If you want to know more drop us a note at info@hsmtraining.com
