Murder of confidential informant in Florida

Here is a story about the murder of a confidential informant in Florida. While there are limited facts available here it will be interesting to follow this story and see if there are any parallels with the murder of Rachael Hoffman in Tallahassee a number of years ago. This led to the introduction of Rachael’s law which was intended to place a much greater obligation on law enforcement to protect informants.

If there has been an unnecessary disclosure by police of Laura Willsey's name and this has led to her death then there is likely a very strong case for negligence. In a similar vein it will be interesting to see if any training was delivered to the officers managing Ms Willsey and what that training looked like. Training for officers is mandatory under Rachael’s law.

Managing confidential informants ( human sources) is involves huge risk. It is a tragedy when a confidential informant is murdered because of assisting law enforcement. Good training for the officers involved and for prosecutors negates the risk.
