Poor informant management - on so many levels

Here is an article about confidential informant management in Orange County, California. There have been problems here for a number of years and the fallout continues.

There is so much wrong here with regard to the evidence the officer provides I am not quite sure where to start. However, assuming the officer is being honest it indicates a system that was totally dysfunctional.

There is no point in going through line by line highlighting exactly what is wrong.

Fixing it requires a full audit of existing practices, a rewriting of existing procedures and proper training for any officer at any rank that is likely to find themselves connected with such activities.

I guess this falls on the Sheriffs shoulder’s.

For everyone else, just ask yourself could it happen in you agency?

And if you are unsure - get help. No one is capable of fixing a mess like this on their own.
