I spent 30 minutes today, with a couple of officers from London's Metropolitan police dictating a witness statement to them. As I talked, the officer typed. Competent as he was, the laptop wasn't exactly in danger of overheating. It is unfortunate that some officers do not have the benefit of having the latest technology to work more effectively. I was tempted to let the officer use my Verinote digital notebook. This would have allowed him to record my exact words. Then a simple flip to Altia's Transcribe and there would have been a full transcription of the statement in a minute or two. More detail, better evidence, securely stored and money saved. And two good officers back on the road helping the public.
